Where my inner nerd shines

I was delighted when on a recent thrifting adventure, some amazing glasses caught my eye. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. I had finally found a set of camp snoopy glasses. They will go great with my garfield mugs, I have had since childhood. Does anyone else miss the actually glasses that Mcdonalds and Burger King used to do each year?

Not only do I have the garfield mugs, I also have the batman forever glasses, flinstones, and disney movie ones. All from when I was a kid except this new collection. Do you have something that you collect that makes absouletly no sense to anyone else?

Small Business Saturday

Thanks to American Express for sponsoring my writing today about small businesses. American Express is presenting Small Business Saturday, a way to honor the local merchants who are the backbone of the economy, this Saturday, November 27. They’re offering statement credits to people who shop at small businesses, advertising for small-business owners, and donations to Girls Inc. for “Likes” of the Small Business Saturday page on Facebook. Join the celebration by clicking the “Like” button and then visiting the Facebook page to learn more about the program and read the terms and conditions that apply.

Now I get to tell you about a couple of my favorite small businesses. The first is the Etsy shop The Pickled Parlor. Kelli started making things for the other mommies in her mommy and me group and fell in love with making things for others. She got the idea to sell her amazing custom creations when her husband lost 5 years ago. She enjoys making her novelty crafts and is self taught graphic designer, with a background in HTML, CSS, and web design.

So please check out her shop The Pickled Parlor.

Kelli also does custom orders.

The second small business I am so happy to feature is Emily of Uff Da Designs. Emily hadn’t really crafted until late into her pregnancy, over come with the desire to make cute accessories for her unborn daughter. When her daughter Poppy was six months old she was laid off from her job of five years. That is when she decided to try her hand at online selling of her lovingly made accessories. Since opening her shop almost six months ago her business has grown by leaps and bounds.

I am in love with her up cycled sweater hats, I will be getting Ian one for Christmas. I am hoping that I will be getting one too.

Christmas is rapidly approaching and it is time to think about what I should be purchasing for others and ideas for others to purchase for me. Receiving has never been high on my list. The joy of watching one open something that you took the time and care to pick out from them and are giving them because you care about them, nothing can replace that feeling of anxiety/pride/happiness. The time it takes to shop for others looking for just the perfect item that they will love. I have already started mostly in my mind shopping for the ones I love. In the past few months I have decided that supporting small business and buying handmade is what I would love to give and receive. This is a few things that I have ran across that I would love to give and/or receive. Minus a couple of things and those two things are being mentioned fully for my benefit.
This Vinyl Decal, I love it and how true it is.
