I got this, window box (?) from my cousin. It sat in my sunroom for over a week while I tried to figure out what to do with. On the same trip home I got my first set of spurs back from my stepmom. And then the later in the week when cleaning out my closet I found my current set of spurs. And I thought how cool my spurs would look in the basket. And then inspiration hit that I could place my tiaras, trophy buckles, and such.
In the recent weeks I have decided that it is time to take our home from college decor to shabby chic decor. It is going to be a slow process but I will make it happen.

This blue bowl, was my Grannie’s. I was swarming in grief when she passed that I didn’t think of getting anything of hers other then a coffee mug and a picture from her walls. I didn’t think about her home that was filled with amazing decorations. I am grateful to my stepmom Janiece for recognizing this and then sharing with me some of the things she got.

The Green Decanter and Green Legged Bowl, were also from my Grannie’s they were easy to find homes for (once we moved into our current apartment). They sit on the shelf right inside the sunroof door. The Decanter holds change, that I find floating around the bottom of my purse. The Green Legged bowl holds, a mishmash of things.

You might be wondering where I am stumped then, it all goes back to the blue bowl at the top. I have no idea what to do with it. It has been sitting in a cabinet for 3 years nearly and I want to find it a home, in my home. I love the look of the bowl. It goes with my hodge podge, shabby chic vibe. So I am asking for ideas of where or what I should do with it.

Making Your Home Sing (Make Monday Matter)

Making Your Home Sing is the brain child of Moms the Word, her point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing? It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money….the opportunities are endless.

I have many small goals that I want to meet this week the first being I want to wake up with a good attitude going into the day. When I do this my whole day tends to be better. Second I want to have more patience with Ian when he gets frustrated with something, he is knows what he wants but doesn’t quiet have all the words to tell me. The day will come when he will have some words I don’t like so I should enjoy these moments. Third I want to start doing more of the kitchen chores; I have been letting both the cooking and cleaning fall heavily on Casey. Now that he has gone back to work, I need to step it up. Lastly, I need to get better at picking up the living room through out the day and not waiting till after Ian is in bed to do it. I am not teaching him anything by doing it when he can’t see and help me do it.

So you ladies have any tips, tricks, or advice?

Making Your Home Sing

Every Monday Mom’s the Word hosts Making Your Home Sing Meme, for more information please click through to her blog. So this is my first time trying this meme, so I hope that I understand and do it right.

What will I do this week day to start to make my home sing. If you read “When did I go from a kid to a grown up?” about how I got out of my funk and got my house up to my standards. With that I then wrote up a Cleaning Routine. I have done pretty well at maintaining it, I had a couple of off days last week.

This week begins a new week on many levels, Casey starts his new job tomorrow, Ian and I have to get back into the swing of things of being by ourselves and I have to start cooking again. So my goal for this week day is to remain calm and to take each day at a time. And plan for dinner first thing after breakfast, so not to have a last minute panic each day.
